MANY artists, sports persons and writers have done the Valley proud by their achievements in their respective fields. The latest to join that zone of achievers is a youngster
from the central Kashmir district of Budgam, specifically from a village called Hazarpora Aripanthan.
Meet the 25-year-old Mir Wasif who has gone on to carve a niche in Indian cinema as an actor of films and web series, sharing screen space with some of the leading actors of Indian cinema. Talking to KC, Mir Wasif shares how since childhood, he always dreamt of being an actor. He did his schooling from a private school of the village – Gulshan Public School, Hazarpora. Later, after passing his Class XII, he opted for a B. Tech course in
mechanical engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar. And this, he followed up with M.Tech in Robotics and Cad/Cam. It was during college that he developed a keen interest in acting since he started to follow different national level celebrities. It
was then that he started to work hard on his physique, his personality and the craft of acting. Wasif happens to be the son of a conductor working with the J&K State Road Transport Corporation. His passion for acting pushed him to move to Mumbai. Wasif started his career as an actor in 2021 as a background artist in Bollywood. But later that year, he
started working in some well known films and web series as a supporting actor, which encouraged him to keep moving. Says he, smiling with pride: “I have worked in some of the best known films and web- series like Beast and Avrodh 2. Apart from this, I have
participated in contests like Mr. Kashmir and more. It was while in college that I started my journey of becoming a model and an actor. I grabbed all the opportunities that came my way and well, that lead me to my goal”.
On the message he would like to give to his fellow Kashmiri youngsters, he says “I would tell them to work with dedication and determination to achieve goals. We must remember that the onus for the betterment of the Kashmiri society is upon us – the youth of Kashmir. We all have to work towards that and make our motherland beautiful, peaceful and uplifted. In every situation, life asks a question, and our actions are the answers! Also, remember that people learn from their failures, and seldom do they learn anything from
success”. Mir Wasif has shared screen-space with the likes of
Guru Randhawa, Mahima Makwana, Shivi Narang, Vicky Kaushal and Emraan Hashmi. He says all these superstars have been his motivation and inspiration. Currently, he is working as a male lead in a song from the album ‘Toot Taara’ wherein he is working with some well-known stars of Indian cinema. Talking about how his childhood dream turned into reality, Wasif says it was not easy, being a village boy and facing lots of limitations. But one must come forward to show one’s talent. A firm sense of commitment and dedication bring positive energy and eventual success. “We should never fear obstacles and difficulties on our way towards our goal”, he adds.
Mir Wasif has also featured among the top ten at the Super Model of Kashmir contest. He has also represented NIT, Srinagar in an inter-state cricket team as a leading player in performance ratings. He has also won the National Body Building Championship in a
recently held event. Mir Wasif attributes his career and education to “Allah first and then my mother who has always encouraged me even when I’ve been too unmotivated to go on. I am not a great communicator but I never allowed that to become my disability. I think I can attribute my journey from being an engineer to a professional actor to my focus and courage to go forward”. That’s yet another chapter in inspiration, what say!
