The NEET-UG 2023 result is not just an inspiration but also a hope that the students of Jammu and Kashmir can shine anywhere. According to a report, more than 52% students have qualified the NEET exam. This is eye-opening for those who still think that Kashmir is yet to return to normal. We recently observed that a lot many aspirants from Jammu and Kashmir qualified the UPSC exams with flying colours. The story of the topper Abdul Basit from Pulwama who bagged 1st position in the State and has an overall rank of 113 all over India in NEET-UG 2023, should give many young bright minds of Kashmir a goal to set. It is also a reminder that they too can work hard and stay dedicated to their studies. There is also Umar Ganie who, despite facing financial constraints and working as a labourer, still managed to crack the exam. His incredible accomplishment not only demonstrates his personal victory but also serves as an example for many others who are trying to overcome similar obstacles. These are but only a few examples which tells us that “yes we can”. Among all these qualifiers there are many who worked hard and did not qualify and it is important that this should not discourage the students from not trying again or trying another field. This is not the only profession. The Kashmiri youths have a lot of talent to work in different fields and to settle anywhere in the world once they decide to go. Not being able to qualify one exam should not be seen as a failure but an opportunity that we can compete for any exam – be it All India Exam or any exam in the world. Also the administration should strive to provide free coaching to students who are financially not sound but yet have the capability to appear and qualify national level exams…. so that every student is given an equal opportunity.
