EVERY time we watch a handsome Amitabh Bachchan serenade a beauteous Rekha while the song ‘Dekha ek khwaab to ye silsile huye, duur tak nigaah mein hain gul khile huye’ plays out, our minds naturally rush to the beauteous tulips so central to the Kashmir reference (even if the song was shot somewhere in the Netherlands).

The tulips are back and blooming in the Valley. The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, the largest of its kind in Asia, has opened its gates to visitors, unveiling a breathtaking display of Nature’s artistry.

As the crisp Spring breeze sweeps across the Kashmir Valley, the spectacle of vibrant hues marks the advent of a promising tourist season.

Meanwhile, the grand inauguration of the Tulip Show-2025 by Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was not just a ceremonial gesture but a reaffirmation of Kashmir’s unparalleled natural charm and its significance in the global tourism map. The CM’s presence at the event, coupled with his warm engagement with visitors, set the tone for a season brimming with enthusiasm and admiration for the Valley’s scenic splendour.

The Tulip Garden is more than just a tourist attraction; it is a symbol of Kashmir’s resilience and its undying spirit of renewal. Over the years, this garden has transformed into an emblem of peace and harmony, drawing Nature lovers, photographers and travel enthusiasts from across the world.

Tourism, undeniably a cornerstone of Kashmir’s economy, finds a renewed impetus with such initiatives. The government’s efforts to boost infrastructure, enhance visitor experiences and promote eco-friendly tourism align seamlessly with the vision of making Kashmir a year-round destination. The overwhelming response from both tourists and locals on the inaugural day reaffirms the significance of such events in fostering economic growth and cultural exchange.

However, while celebrating this grand spectacle, it is imperative to acknowledge the responsibility that comes with it. Sustainable tourism practices must be emphasised to preserve the pristine beauty of this natural marvel. Visitors and authorities alike must work hand-in-hand to ensure the garden remains a sanctuary of floral elegance for generations to come.
