DURING a crucial meeting to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on January 2, advised the security agencies for appropriate deployment in vulnerable areas and directed them to strengthen the counter-terrorism operations and need for complete elimination of terror eco-system.
The review meeting was held just a few days after five soldiers were killed on December 21 in an ambush by terrorists of Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad’s proxy People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF) in Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, national security advisor Ajit Doval, Army Chief General Manoj Pande, DGP-J&K RR Swain and officers of intelligence agencies were present in the meeting.
Area domination and deployment, rather redeployment of the security forces in sensitive areas like Poonch and Rajouri seems to be the consensual response to the renewed terrorism South of Pirpanjal in Jammu & Kashmir.
What could be the most appropriate response to wipe out terrorism from the region?
My personal opinion is that you should stay a step ahead of your enemy. Know your adversary, his abilities & machinations, learn about his successes and failures and his motives.
Terrorism, to my limited understanding, is all about action, and appropriate response could never be reaction or retaliation. Elimination of terrorism depends on your action, not retaliation.
Act first and don’t give a chance to your enemy to hit first.
Understanding the adversary could actually help in staying ahead of them.
