Trophy Comes to Kashmir!
Sadia Tariq of Srinagar made history by bagging the gold medal at the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship.
Sadia is a two-time gold medallist in the Junior National Wushu Championship. She is the daughter of a journalist at India Today, Tariq Ahmad Lone. Sadis is a Class 10 student of Presentation Convent School, Rajbagh, Srinagar. While Jammu and Kashmir does not have a strong presence in women’s Wushu, Sadia has made it her chosen sport and made India proud.
After news of her win spread, social media was flooded with congratulation tweets. PM Shri Narendra Modi, Lt Gov Shri Manoj Sinah, Mayor Junaid Mattu, Minister Of Law and Justice Shri Kiren Rijiju, Omar Abdullah and others congratulated and tweeted, “Congratulations to Sadia Tariq on Winning the Gold medal at Moscow Wushu Stars Championship. Her success will inspire many budding athletes. Wishing her the very best for her future endeavours”. Kashmiris are also delighted and proud of her performance. Sadia is being hailed extensively on social media.
The ongoing championship is being held from February 22 to 28. The young champ gave a tough fight to a Russian girl in the approved event in the Annual Calendar Training and competition of Sports Authority of India. Sadia was the only Wushu player from J&K to take part in the championship among 38 contingents of Wushu Players from across India.
Her game never gets slow or dull as she has been successful in several championships and competitions. For the preparation of Youth Asian Games, Sadia has earned a berth for the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE), scheduled to be held in December 2022 in China. Sadia is very young and still has a long way to go.
