Facebook User Arrested Over Alleged Anti-National Involvement



Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have apprehended a Facebook user suspected of promoting anti-national activities in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

“To maintain peace and tranquillity, the Pulwama Police have taken commendable action against a social media user who incited the general public and promoted anti-state activities,” states a press release.

“It has come to light that an individual operated a fake social media account under the name ‘Pulwama News’ and was involved in sharing videos and images of militants killed in the Kokernag encounter. This account was created to bolster militant activities and instill fear among the public, posing a severe threat to the country’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty,” the statement continues.

Consequently, a case (FIR No. 98/2023) under relevant legal provisions has been registered, and an investigation is underway.

“During the investigation, the accused, identified as Ashiq Ah Khan, son of Bashir Ah Khan, and a resident of Niloora Khan Mohalla, was arrested for engaging in such unlawful activities. The case investigation remains ongoing,” the statement notes.
