X formerly Twitter has barred the handle of Srinagar based The Kashmir Walla in India on Sunday morning.
A message upon opening the handle shows @Tkwmag’s account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand.
In a statement, The Kashmir Walla has said that the news site based in Srinagar that has been covering developments in Jammu Kashmir without fear or favour for more than 12 years.
“For the past 18 months, however, we’ve lived a horrifying nightmare – with the arrest and imprisonment of our founder-editor, Fahad Shah, and the harassment of our reporters and staff, amid an already inhospitable climate for journalism in the region,” read the statement.
Pertinently, the Editor of Kashmir Walla is imprisoned under serious charges and state has declared him a threat to the peace and security of the nation due to his secessionist ideology.
